Debt collectors benefit from local conferences

The upcoming Northeast Debt Collection Expo will provide regional debt collection agency representatives with an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge to avoid future infractions, insideARM reports.

Many debt collection agencies are having trouble complying with legislation such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and need to be updated what can and can't be done. "It's almost to the point where simply making a phone call is likely to be in violation of at least seventeen laws," one industry CEO told the media outlet. He added that consumer attorneys waste no time finding these broken rules and helping "victims" capitalize. The NEDCC Expo, like many other regional conferences, can be more beneficial than national meetings because officials speak directly about geographical laws. "You won't hear 'check back home' from this conference," Quality Asset Recovery CEO Larry Steller said. "We can share real info and talk about real strategy." Attendees can receive help from attorneys to modify and update policies and engage in discussion with local peers. According to the Expo's website, one presentation will include a conversation about consumer litigation trends, causes behind the increase in lawsuits and advice about how to protect a company's reputation.
