Annual conference for debt collection industry set for February
The annual conference of DBA International, which is expected to draw 1,600 members of the debt collection industry, is set to take place between February 5 and 7, 2013 in Las Vegas.
 The confab will have 120 exhibit booths and a series of workshops outlining current trends for debt buyers and sellers, collection agencies and attorneys in the collection field. The opening day, February 5, will feature a certification primer session, then break into two educational tracks. One series of sessions will be aimed at debt buyers on the topics of due diligence, document management systems and contract negotiations for purchase and sale agreements. The attorney track will cover best practices in collecting purchased accounts, litigation trends and settlement issues. The main day of the conference, February 6, will feature sessions on the current economic state of debt sales, an update on state legislation and federal regulations impacting debt collectors and the post-election climate as it affects the collection field. February 7 presentations will include ways to build a cohesive, productive staff and strategies for handling inquiries into collection practices by the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
