Dec 27, 2010 Matt Roesly

An accredited background check organization recently made headlines after releasing its Top 10 Trends in Pre-Employment Background Screenings for 2011. On its website, Employment Screening Resources released the fourth annual list to help employers find out what they need to know. Among the new trends were "E-Verify and I-9 Audits [to] help government employers with illegal workers" and utilizing social media tools in order to find out more about a candidate's personal life and out-of-work activities. In addition, the trends included adding more workplace violence protection to cover those already working for a company. "For the fourth consecutive year, [we have] identified new trends that are starting to make a difference as well as older trends evolving as the pre-employment background screening industry matures," said Lester Rosen, founder and president of the firm. Workplaces all over the country have been using pre-employment screenings. The Southeast Missourian reports that a hospital in Cape Girardeau will have increased screening measures, including making sure that it does not hire smokers.
