Tenant Screening in the Digital Age

My how things have changed in the past 20 or even 10 years. Technology is moving at lightning-fast speeds, bringing for a bigger need to take advantage of the boon technology delivers across all sectors, all fields, and all industries. One area where technology has made great strides to help landlords take advantage of the latest tenant screening techniques and tactics while eliminating risks of running afoul of increasing laws and ordinances to protect tenants and potential tenants.

Considering that cities, like Minneapolis, are beginning to go to extraordinary measures to limit the information landlords can use to screen their tenants, it is more important than ever to rely on screening software that works within the laws of your jurisdiction to screen potential tenants. Alternative credit solutions may also work well in these situations where traditional credit scores may be prejudicial.

The other thing landlords must do, locally, and nationwide, to protect your interests as landlords. This means to work together to form coalitions that go to bat on your behalf. One such conference is the Mr. Landlord Convention. In 2020, it will be held in Nashville, TN on May 28, 29, and 30th.  Conferences and conventions can help you learn many of the nuts and bolts of being a landlord and managing your own property.

Tenant Screening in the Digital Age

Investing in your own business with the right software and technology gives you greater access to information that can help you make informed decisions when selecting tenants. Some technology even provides access to vital tenant information so you can make rental decisions in a matter of minutes rather than days.

From background screenings and credit checks, it’s important to know who you are renting your property to. It is your responsibility to protect your interests and those of your other tenants by renting to people who are non-violent and respectful of their neighbors and their neighbors’ properties.

MicroBilt understands that this is a lot of responsibility. We’ll work with you, through our software, to identify prime candidates you’ll want to rent your properties to.
