Strategic Forecasting data breach puts identities and credit cards at risk
In order for a financial institution to maintain a secure website for its customers, it much have a reputable SaaS provider or internal IT team that understands what to do in the event of a data breach.
A team of hackers known as Anonymous have hacked into Strategic Forecasting and stolen the credit card numbers of consumers. Complying with the standards of procedure during a breach, Strategic Forecasting has informed its clients of the breach and is working vigilantly to address the issue. During a data breach, a company's vital information is vulnerable and consumers are at risk of identity theft and potential credit card fraud. "We are diligently investigating the extent to which subscriber information may have been obtained," stated a letter by Strategic Forecasting and signed by CEO George Friedman. "Stratfor's relationship with its members and, in particular, the confidentiality of their subscriber information, are very important to Stratfor and me." Upon realizing a data breach, a company should inform its customers to consider putting holds on their credit cards and bank accounts, and at the very least inform their banks of the possibility that their information was stolen so that they can be aware of any suspicious activity in the near future.
