State to make court records available online
The state court in Maryland will be making documents available online for the first time in its history, thanks to a new system implemented by the state's court.
A recent briefing by Chief District Judge Ben Clyburn explained the Maryland Electronic Court Initiative to the Senate Judicial Proceedings, a system he said would have a major impact on the way people are able to access records, according to the Maryland Reporter. While the old system forced people to actually go to the court to collect documents, the new system, which has been in the works for some three and a half years, will give people quicker access to documents. "We want to do it the right way. We don’t want to waste money," Clyburn said. “We want to do it once, and do it right." Making records available online has been an issue of debate in nearby Virginia. Richmond police chief Bryan Norwood recently filed a complaint in a local court to have records sealed from an anarchist group, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.
