Two companies are teaming up to offer local merchants an option that will speed up mobile payments for their customers during their purchases.
Global Payments, which processes electronic transactions, will use software by edo, which specializes in mobile sales that are linked consumer offers, to start the pilot program edo Marketplace.
The project will allow retailers to increase targeted promotions sent to customers through their smartphones, tablets and credit or debit card vendors. By having discounts and other redeemable offers immediately available through these channels, the customers will save time at check-out locations and merchants won't have to alter their point-of-sale systems. The savings will be sent directly to the consumers' account.
"Through our relationship with edo, our customers will have the opportunity to gain a powerful new capability for driving sales, as well as access to unmatched data, targeting and insight-driven tools," said Sid Singh, senior vice president and global product head at Global Payments.
Global Payments will be able to process the transactions through an estimated 200 million cards that are on file with hundreds of banks and other financial institutions. The Atlanta-based company authorizes payments made through credit, debit and prepaid ACH cards, electronic draft capture, check and sales draft processing and private label cards.
