For using a mobile app for sports events, Boston College gets a new sponsor

A mobile payment app offered by PXT Payments will allow Boston College sports fans to tap into a variety of electronic transactions.

The Boston-based company has teamed up with Fenway Sports Management, which runs sporting events at the college's Conte Forum and Alumni Stadium. In exchange, PXT Payments has signed on as a sponsor of the college's athletic program.

Mobil Payments Today reported that fans will benefit by the partnership because using a looped-in app allows them to find deals, make purchases, transfer funds and pool money that can be used for group buys. Mobile payments can be made from smartphones and tablets with credit, debit and prepaid ACH cards.

"Looped-in mobile technology offers an innovative payment solution for both consumers and merchants," said Matt Murrey, vice president of Boston College marketing partnerships at Fenway Sports Management. "They have essentially captured all the conveniences of cash on a mobile platform without any of the drawbacks."

PXT Payments CEO John Regan said working with Boston College allows his company to tap into the lucrative college and young professionals market. He said the firm is currently looking into expanding the program to include other sports facilities and merchants, particularly those that are able to accept pooled payments for group sales.
