Conference to discuss role of risk management post-2008 financial collapse
Risk management - in terms of consumer credit, business investment and market trends - is increasingly becoming an integral component of speculative health. The lack of scrutiny that followed the securities trading and credit consolidation practices of the 2008 financial collapse offer a stark reminder of the importance of risk management across all facets of an operation.
With that in mind, the Florida International Bankers Association Risk Management will hold the Conference for the Americas this October, offering a venue to discuss the development of an integrated risk organization and governance model for businesses. Dietmar Serbee, a principal at PricewaterhouseCoopers US, will be the keynote speaker. He will argue that the global banking crisis has forced finance leaders to rethink risk management policies. "This business function and its support processes are now different and must be revised at many financial institutions, with the challenge being to translate this organizational goal into specific actions to meet the new emerging standards," Serbee said in a statement. However, many industry experts, such as Altasol Risk Management CEO Paul Koch, argue financial institutions are not yet ready for such a shift in risk management practices.
